Move in three steps

Tailwind Plus uses Headless UI in React and Vue, and ReUI uses shadcn/ui, so you move screen by screen. Both run on Tailwind CSS v4.

    1Step 1: Set up shadcn/ui and the registry

    Upgrade a Tailwind CSS v3 project to v4 first. Then run the shadcn/ui init (the shadcn/ui installation guide (opens in a new tab) covers each framework) and add the ReUI registry to components.json. The init adds theme variables to your main CSS file, so check your existing screens after it runs.

FAQ

Common questions

Answers on Tailwind Plus sign ups, moving a project to shadcn/ui, and how the ReUI license works.

Can I still buy Tailwind Plus?

Not as a new customer. Tailwind Labs announced on September 9, 2026 that it is closing sign ups for new customers. On September 27, 2026, the Tailwind Plus pages, including the storefront that listed the prices, redirected to a sign-in form.

I already own Tailwind Plus. Should I switch?

Only if it is missing something you need. The announcement says existing customers keep their access and that Tailwind Labs will no longer try to grow the commercial side, but not whether new components or updates will ship, so ask Tailwind Labs if you rely on them. ReUI adds pieces Tailwind Plus does not have, such as a data grid, kanban and gantt.

Is Tailwind CSS still free?

Yes. The announcement says Tailwind CSS and the other open-source projects stay MIT-licensed and keep being maintained. Only the paid products are closing to new customers. ReUI is built on Tailwind CSS v4.

What is the difference between Tailwind UI and Tailwind Plus?

They are the same product. Tailwind UI was renamed Tailwind Plus in 2025. It includes the UI blocks, the site templates and Catalyst, a React application kit built on Headless UI.

How is Tailwind Plus different from shadcn/ui?

Tailwind Plus is code you copy or download from a paid account: React and Vue on Headless UI, and plain HTML on Tailwind's own Elements library, which also needs a Tailwind Plus license. shadcn/ui is free and open source, and its CLI installs components into your project on Base UI or Radix. ReUI is a shadcn/ui registry, so it installs the same way.

Is there a free Tailwind Plus alternative for React?

shadcn/ui itself is free. ReUI adds 1,149 free component examples and 22 primitives under the MIT license, installed into the same project with no account. Browse them in Components. The Pro blocks, the motion icons and the templates need a license.

Is there an alternative to the Catalyst UI kit?

Yes. ReUI's free components cover the parts a Catalyst app is built from (inputs, selects, comboboxes, dialogs, tables, the sidebar), and its Pro application blocks cover full screens (app shells, sign-in, settings, dashboards).

Does ReUI have starter templates like Tailwind Plus?

Yes. ReUI Templates include marketing sites (a SaaS landing page and a pre-launch waitlist) and app templates for dashboards, CRM, commerce admin, help desk and more, all built from ReUI components and blocks. Tailwind Plus templates are marketing, docs and content sites, so the landing pages overlap, and its docs, podcast and conference templates have no ReUI counterpart. Templates come with the Ultimate plan.

Can my coding agent install ReUI?

Yes. The hosted MCP server lets Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients search the registry, read component APIs and install with the shadcn CLI. It needs a free ReUI account. See MCP setup.

How does the ReUI license work?

A ReUI license is a one-time payment with lifetime updates, not a subscription. Pro covers the blocks, and Ultimate adds the templates and the motion icons. Prices start at $249 for Pro and $499 for Ultimate, for one developer. Team covers 5 seats, Growth 10, and Enterprise is unlimited. Details are on Pricing.

Is ReUI affiliated with Tailwind Labs?

No. ReUI is an independent shadcn/ui registry. Tailwind CSS, Tailwind UI and Tailwind Plus are trademarks of Tailwind Labs Inc., used here only to identify their products.
